The construction and automotive industries are two of the primary sectors driving demand for steel plates in Thailand and across the ASEAN region. In early 2025, the Thai Iron and Steel Industry Promotion Association (TISPA) reported an 8.7% increase in demand for hot-rolled steel plates, particularly among structural steel fabricators and electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers. These industries are increasingly adopting high-strength, lightweight steel products, such as galvanized steel and high-tensile steel, to improve structural performance while reducing overall weight.
Thailand’s automotive industry is also expected to continue its expansion. In 2025, vehicle production is projected to exceed 2 million units, with electric vehicles (EVs) accounting for more than 25% of total production under the government’s strategic development plan. This growth is expected to drive demand for steel plates used in vehicle body panels, chassis components, and battery systems. At the same time, continued investment in major infrastructure projects—including mass transit systems, expressways, and airports—is expected to increase demand for steel plates from leading construction contractors across the country.
